World of Warcraft reputation affects a player's ability to sell items, buy rare reputation rewards and ride Warcraft mounts.

As players complete quests in World of Warcraft they build reputation with the many different Warcraft factions. Your reputation with a faction determines how good a deal faction vendors give you when you sell Warcraft loot. Different Warcraft factions offer different reputation rewards, including profession recipes and Warcraft mounts.

Reputation Levels

Players gain reputation in increments. At first a faction if Neutral, or even Hostile to the player. As the player completes quests important to that faction his or her reputation increases accordingly. After Neutral a faction becomes Friendly to the player. After Friendly the player is Honored, then Revered. Finally, the player reaches an Exalted reputation, the highest level.

Bear in mind players can lose reputation as well as gain it. Players are also restricted by their own faction: an Alliance player cannot gain Orgrimmar reputation, nor can a member of the Horde gain Stormwind reputation.

Player Factions and Reputation

The first factions a player encounters will be the Alliance and Horde factions. An Alliance player can gain reputation with Stormwind, Ironforge, the Exodar, the Gnomeregan Exiles and Darnassus. The Horde gain repuatation with Orgrimmar, the Undercity, Thunder Bluff, Silvermoon and the Darkspear Trolls.

A character can only purchase Warcraft mounts from his or her own faction. For instance, a troll can only buy a mount from the Darkspear trolls. If, however, the same troll reaches Exalted reputation with any of the other four Horde factions he or she would be able to purchase that factions mounts.

Rival Factions

Certain NPC factions are at odds with each other. Gaining reputation for one of these factions will lower a player’s reputation with the other, so players often compare the two factions’ reputation rewards before picking a side in the conflict. For instance, the Scryer and Aldor factions in Shattrath City have no love for each other, and players who align with one side at the expense of the other.

PVP Reputation Rewards

Different factions are also associated with the different PVP battlefields. Each faction has a quartermaster who sells unique items, weapons, and armor to players depending on the players battleground rep. some of the PVP factions also sell Warcraft mounts once the player reaches Exalted.

Checking Warcraft Reputation

Players can check their faction reputations by selecting Character Info. The Character Info window has a Reputation tab, which lists all the different factions and the player’s reputation with each. To track a faction’s reputation, clicking a reputation bar gives the option of displaying it just above the experience bar.

Daily Quests

Reaching Exalted reputation for any World of Warcraft faction requires some effort. Often completing one time quests isn’t enough to reach the highest reputation. Players often reputation grind, either by killing creatures that yield a few points of reputation per kill, or by completing daily quests.

Daily quests, as the name impies, are quests that can be completed once every 24 hours. Most often, a daily quest calls for players to kill a certain number of monsters or gather a certain amount of items. Completing the quest yields anywhere from 75 to 500 reputation points. Most NPC factions require players to complete at least some daily quests before you reach Exalted reputation.
